Located in Worcester County, Maryland is a small town known as Berlin. It is located 130 miles southeast of Baltimore and 130 miles north of Virginia Beach, Virginia. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 4,608 people living in Berlin in 2016. Berlin is the second largest community in Worcester County.
Berlin began to develop as a town in the 1790s. It was established around a 300-acre land grant that became Burley Plantation. Berlin is named for the Burleigh Inn, a local tavern that sat at the intersection of Philadelphia Post and Sinepuxent Roads. The name of the town is a contraction of the words Burleigh and Inn. Berlin became incorporated as a town three years after the end of the Civil War in 1868.
